Rafa de Valeriano · The Transmission
Rafa de Valeriano - Rafael Bernal - is the son and successor of Valeriano Bernal Senior. El Maestro is paired with La Guardia (Valeriano Bernal Senior, 1995) as the Algodonales dynasty: master and successor, both generations held simultaneously in one collection.
El Maestro was built in the Clase Maestro P.S. tier - the highest build classification of the Bernal workshop. Rafa de Valeriano continues building, but instruments from the transitional period when father and son worked alongside each other are increasingly rare.

La Guardia (Valeriano Bernal Senior, 1995) and El Maestro (Rafa de Valeriano, 2005) document the transmission of the Algodonales workshop tradition across a ten-year window. Tradition & Use
The Algodonales school carries the voice of the Serranía de Ronda - a mountain tradition distinct from the coastal schools of Cádiz and the inland schools of Granada. El Maestro is built as a negra, rosewood back and sides rather than cypress, which trades some of the dry percussive snap of the blanca for depth and sustain.
