Selected Instruments
A Syrian or Lebanese oud, c.1901, the acoustic ancestor of everything in the collection. Apricot bowl, hand-carved arabesque rosette with individually differentiated birds, full-length bone neck inlay. The maker's identity lives in an unread line of Arabic inscription. Before the guitar was the oud. Before Spain was al-Andalus.
